Sean Kinney hails from Fort Worth, Texas, where he started performing at the tender age of seven. Sean developed a unique style of physical comedy, and soon, at the much more mature age of thirteen, started getting offers to direct. For his first gig, he performed a pantomime as part of a show at his grade school. The act got a standing ovation, and Sean was hooked on show biz. His first professional directing gig was directing Mozart's The Magic Flute for the Shoestring Opera Company in Fort Worth, Texas, at the decrepit old age of nineteen.
He went to Texas Wesleyan University as a double Armstrong Scholarship recipient, for music and theater. After college, he moved to Los Angeles, where he went to work for the legendary Roger Corman to learn the production side of film, while still performing his stage routines weekly. Sean's direction has expanded from stage to include commercials, documentaries, music videos and feature films.
Sean produced music videos for such stars as Robert Palmer and Dede, which went to #1 on MTV International in Scandinavia and Japan. He directed and starred in the short film First Impressions, a five minute silent black and white Vaudeville comedy that received the Second Best of the Fest at the 1996 Tacoma Tortured Artist Film Festival, and premiered at the World Famous Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles. Sean also co-developed (with twelve others through improv) the long-running Los Angeles cult comedy musical hit, Butt Pirates of the Carribean, along with the Troubadour Theatre Company, which received a 1998 Garland Award for Outstanding Performance of the Year. Sean honed his craft in the commercial world, and won a Clio Award in the year of our lord 1997, as well as both the Golden Prix and the Grand Prix Awards at Cannes. He also won some Golden Grahams at the International Tournee of Breakfast (1998 ¼).
Sean regularly performed with the sketch comedy group, ACTUAL SIZE!, that he also directed and wrote for; the troupe was featured in the Big Stinkin' Comedy Festival and the NoHo Arts Festival, and also at the world famous Comedy Store on Sunset Blvd. Sean also was the Co-Creator and Co-Producer of the first comedy festival in Hollywood, the Hollywood HaHa Festival, and was the live Mascot "Uncle Clyde" in the long running Uncle Clyde's Comedy Contest, which he also co-created. Sean's first feature film, Rubbernecking, aka Accidents Don't Happen, which he co-directed, co-wrote, co-produced and co-starred in, was featured in the 1999 IFFM, the 2000 New York Independent International Film & Video Festival, and the 2001 AngelCiti Film Festival. Aside from all these International Awards, Sean's most prized award is the 1975 Gold Star he received from his kindergarten teacher.
Most recently he has been working freelance in TV and in films. He continues to perform on stage, mostly seen at Sacred Fools Theatre in Los Angeles. Participating mostly in their ongoing shows Fast & Loose and 10-Tops. He was a semi-regular in their past series Crime Scene.
Sean hopes to bring the Vaudeville style back to the Silver Screen.
